Before you begin
How to do it
- Confirm the exact ES2.5, ES4 or ES8 model and the previous anode replacement date; inspection and replacement are separate records.
- Book qualified replacement by the manufacturer’s two-year limit. Bring forward service if inspection finds a corroded, pitted or missing rod or water conditions shorten its life.
- Have the professional select the model-correct rod, perform the manufacturer procedure and check safe operation. This guide provides no draining, wiring or disassembly steps.
- Record actual replacement and the service recommendation for the next date. Continue the separate annual inspection requirement; do not treat an inspection as a replacement.
Stop and get help when
- Leak or water near electrical parts
- Corroded, pitted or missing anode reported by service
- Unknown maintenance history or overdue replacement
Have a qualified water-heater service professional handle anode access, assessment, replacement, water quality and any leak or electrical concern. Stop using unsafe equipment and seek prompt service.
